Alan Bennet has rightly said – ‘A book is a device to ignite the imagination’. Reading is as much use to a springy toddler, as it is to a young entrepreneur or a successful professional. It teaches you life’s many values and the workings of the human mind; it also gives you ideas and the creative imagination to turn them into a reality.

Though there are thousands of books written on recruiting, here’s a list of 5 books that every recruiter must read:

  • Who

It is a book by Geoff Smart and Randy Street based on extensive research that explains how the HR department works and how presently recruiters have become so important in the corporate world. According to the book, one wrong candidate hired by a recruiter can cost the organization fifteen times the employee’s base salary in terms of hard costs and productivity loss. Hence, your mistakes could prove to be pricey.

  • Keeping the Millennials

The cultural difference between the Millennials and the baby boomers is increasing due to rapid technological changes. This ever-increasing gap between the two generations is leading to a clash in workplace cultures, confusion and hurt sentiments. This book will help recruiters and the HR department to bridge the gap between these two generations by resolving their differences and help them work together.

Do not go by the name, this book by Paul Falcone emphasizes a different philosophy of interviewing instead of firing a prerecorded set of questions at the candidate. Instead of just providing with a checklist of interview questions, it also explains why these questions work and how to interpret the answers correctly.

  • Hire with Your Head

Author Lou Adler has a very straight forward and comprehensive methodology. He believes that the personality traits of a recruiter, who has been recruiting for a long time, go through a considerable change. Hence, the whole recruitment process needs to be systematic to adapt to those changes.

  • Moneyball

This book by Michael Lewis is based on baseball recruiting. However, it is a very entertaining and simple book to read even if you do not know anything about baseball, or are not into baseball recruiting. It tells how you can hire an A+ team even if you do not hire heavyweight or superstar candidates.
