4 ways to Pursue and Persuade Passive candidates!
It’s a familiar situation for recruiters to come across a potential candidate, a perfect fit for a role, who, unfortunately, is not an active job seeker. You want to hire them, but to no avail. In such a case, you need to work out a smart strategy for recruitment; you grab their attention, start and build a relationship, and later, approach them in such a way they are tempted by your offer.
Here are a few steps to working out a smart strategy to pursue and persuade passive talent.
Expand your network: Schedule time every week to explore your networks both online and offline (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter etc.). Attend seminars & networking events and leverage current employees to reach out to like-minded people through referrals. Maintain records of your network, after all, who knows who can be a passive candidate for your next upcoming role?
Connect and converse at a personal level: Rather than send mass mailers, pique the person’s curiosity through a personalized first-time email/message. Research the recipient’s interests and experience and draft your subject/intent so as to catch their attention. Build an initial relationship through e-connect such as LinkedIn and industry forums and then take out the time to schedule a discussion. Build your relationship, get to know the person beyond just the job requirement so as to develop a good recall. Convincing the person can get easier with the level of comfort you share!
Consistency is key: A courteous follow-up after 3-5 days of sending the first email/message is a must in case you do not receive a reply. You never know, your email might have been caught in spam. A gentle reminder asking them to connect can capture attention. Even if the person is not interested in a job, some other business opportunity can be leveraged and later on the topic of jobs can be broached. Stay consistent in your follow up and see results eventually coming in.
Be your organization’s brand ambassador: While engaging with passive candidates it is all the more important to throw in cues about how your company is a great place to work. Share personal experiences to get the potential candidate interested in knowing more about the organization and culture and then direct them to the role on offer through a casual discussion.
Dedicate some time every week to focus on the passive pool and polish the way you connect with them; in the long run.
