No

The headline of this blog is reflective of the gradual changes that are happening within the Recruitment industry! There has been a small notch improvement in Jobseekers now moving from saying Yes when they meant No; to No and meaning it if it was really a No.

I believe the change is happening because of the change in behavior of the Recruiters as well. Recruiters have started asking direct questions to the job seekers and in a non-threatening manner; whether the job seeker is really keen about the opportunity or whether they were already talking to other Recruiters, where they had a better chance of meeting their expectations etc. Recruiters are making the Candidate more comfortable; that it is absolutely ok if the Candidate finds any other offer better.

Recently I was witness to a phone dialogue between a Recruiter and Jobseeker, where the Recruiter gracefully said ‘I am sure with your kind of experience; you would be in talks with several other recruiters. I wish you choose my opportunity, but if something else benefits you, I will only urge you to take that and wish you best for your career. I will, however, wait to re-connect with you the next time you change your job”!

This change in the behavior of Recruiters is making the Candidates comfortable about being honest and upfront. Because no longer they are burdened with the guilt that many a time Recruiters impose on the Candidates; justifiable because of their own pressures. And because Candidates were not as skilled to confidently manage this guilt they had and because of the potential hurt they may cause to the Recruiters, they either lied or never responded.

With now No means No, Candidates are being seen more professional and it is making Recruiter’s task more predictable. Hope this trend continues and we Recruitment, becomes one of the most important functions for an organization, which it undoubtedly is.
