Automation in Hiring Process For Mundane Tasks!!!
See, hiring is subjective; so one has to eventually take a hiring call manually…Agree, no debate there…but mundane manual processes in the hiring cycle can be automated no?
Imagine if the person behind the order register at McDonald’s, shouted to the team inside “One McTikki with no cheese & onion with Jain sauce and glass of water”. Then imagine the burger maker comes running to the delivery platform, verifies your order and you jump saying “who said onion” and then the burger maker girl rushes to the order register girl and says angrily “Hey you said no cheese with onion and Jain sauce no”…Consider the ruckus….?
Similarly in hiring, there are several processes that are manual and repetitive in nature; the killer amongst them is “Phone Calling”….(you need to admit here; in spite of the fancy Artificial Idiot (AI) ChatBot your boss procured, you still want to pick up the phone….because the candidate doesn’t even open the darn ChatBot; you are lucky he did not buy Video Interview system!)…
You will agree, phone call is required at almost all stages of the hiring cycle; be it to check the candidate’s interest; to screen for suitability; to schedule them for interviews; to confirm if they are coming for the interviews; to remind them about the interviews; to beg them to show up; to check if the offer acceptance did not go in the Spam; to check before joining if they did not get an offer from NASA…etc etc.
While you may say “that’s our job; that’s what we are paid for”…and We would say…NO…you are paid for hiring the candidate…period.
The reason phone call is a killer process is because:
- Half the candidates don’t answer them
- Most phones are busy or out of network area
- Many say they are not looking for a job
- Few may even spend time and say they are not interested (yours does not match up with the NASA offer…)
- Good ones will ask you to call later in the evening…but then evening they are with their (girl/boy)friends, hence were busy..
So 70% of your effort, time and (company’s money) is wasted…That’s still fine; imagine your frustration, stress, cholesterol, blood pressure, potential diabetes…its awful…
