Your voice can improve the hiring process

When you make a call and have the candidate on phone; your voice determines largely whether the candidate will continue to listen to you or give this popular pushback…. ‘Call me later’!

After analyzing 100s of campaigns on our product Callify, about recruiters pitching to candidates; below are some of the gaps we saw that hugely impact; whether the recruiter has managed to get the attention of the candidate or not:

  1. Most recruiter talk in a tone that is very meek and soft; shows lack of confidence. Maybe the recruiter feels that the candidate is busy and that he/she is intruding on a candidate’s work time. Whereas, most successful recruiters we have observed are the ones who go in all the way by raising their volume and tone (loud & clear) confidently; and ensure that they have got the full attention of the candidate.
  1. Secondly, many recruiters make a very weak job pitch. They are not truly prepared. Many ‘Ahs’ and ‘Hmms’ shows their lack of deep knowledge of the job opportunity. While the winners on the other hand, not only articulate and make a rough draft of what they will be pitching; many even practice by saying it loud to their colleagues to seek feedback, before starting on the calls.
  1. Finally, the largest blunder most recruiters make is by asking closed-ended questions rather than asking open-ended questions. Since they get answers in monosyllables, the recruiters make inaccurate decisions about who they are shortlisting; eventually resulting in hiring manager rejections. Recruiters who perform consistently have developed a habit of asking a mix of open-ended and closed-ended questions; to be able to correctly judge if someone is just saying yes to a question or they are truly able to elaborate on the answer in greater depths.

Candidate calling across the hiring cycle is not going to get eliminated anytime soon. If so, then sharpen your speaking & engagement skills (what and how) and leverage your own Voice to closure more candidates; FAST!
