1. Following the resume blindly

Agreed that a resume/CVs gives the first impression of a candidate. But, a candidate’s profile is beyond that. Read between the lines and see if the candidate has more potential than what it appears. Think above and beyond the traditional resume practices.

2. Lacking clarity in job postings

Irrespective of where you post jobs, you need to be specific about the job description. So, if you want to save your inbox (and your precious time!) from getting bombarded with hundreds of resumes, be cautious while posting jobs.

3. Not planning your calendar

“By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail”, said Benjamin Franklin. No matter how short of time you are or many tasks you have at hand, spend some time planning your calendar. By doing so, you would know what to do when and how.

4. Asking out of place questions

At times, the reason for not being able to find the right candidate is a failure to ask him the right questions. Avoid out of context questions and keep the interview short and to the point.

5. Lacking patience in handling candidates

Whether you like it or not, you can’t avoid dealing with candidates. You will meet all kinds of candidates, good and bad. Some of them will even leave you frustrated. But, the key to handling them is to be calm and patient. Remember, you are the first point of contact with the organization for the candidate. How you behave and execute your role will give them the first-hand impression of the organization.
