If you take an average of recruiter performance across various industry verticals and staffing/recruitment firms, an average of about 3 per recruiter per month hires is observed.

Based on how many hires the company wishes to achieve, that many numbers of recruiters are on-boarded. Now the most surprising fact about this average is that it has not changed since the last 2 decades

This average also tells us that no matter what a recruiter does, the hiring is still going to take that much time and only 3 per month. Reality now however is that no company is prepared to wait or spend a lot of hiring. It’s the bitter truth. 

Hiring is the norm because good candidates don’t stay for too long in the open market (some statistics say less than 24 hours). Skill match is becoming challenge because the jobseekers have not kept themselves aligned with what the company needs (which is changing much rapidly beyond company’s control). This means that a lot many number of candidates have to be screened to find the right match.

From the recruiter perspective, today she is more distracted than ever before with social media, whatsapp and other channels that sucks away time like a black-hole. Too much of information load further causes analysis-paralysis leaving with no time to focus on core hiring.

On the other hand declining economy and proliferation of technology to automate repetitive, cumbersome, wasteful tasks (which till date recruiters found solace and at times to hide their inability to show quick results), companies are expecting the recruitment teams to remain the same despite growing load or in most cases reduce the head-count and remove redundancy (excess, non-performing fat!).

The future in not so distant is becoming clearly visible, where a lean set of high-performing recruiters will use state-of-the-art technology tools to accomplish 3X (9 hires instead of just 3) the hiring within one month and yet contributing in multiple other areas within the hiring process, which in the past were managed by separate teams.

Recruiters that manage to adopt ‘Do what you love (and more importantly), Love what you do’ will be the new super recruiters of tomorrow; like it or not!
